Colca Canyon, Peru

After a brief visit to "the white city" of Arequipa, we headed to Colca Valley to see the deepest canyon in the world - 1km in parts! The journey to the main look-out point was genuinely breathtaking, with Incan terrace farms as far as the eye could see.

We also bumped into rather a lot of llamas and alpacas on the way!

We left our hotel at an ungodly hour in the hope of catching a glimpse of Andean Condors at their most active. We didn't have too much luck at first as we spent the first hour staring into the distance! After a while of this we headed on a trek along the canyon. Within a few minutes we saw seven of them circling us from above. They were absolutely huge! For the next hour we were followed as they took it in turns to swoop down meters in front of us.

Later in the afternoon decided to go zip lining across the canyon. The first two runs were really good fun, but we both wanted to go higher and faster...

We'd been told about the 'extreme' line, although most of our group bottled it, we headed to the park's highest point to go on a line that went at over 100km an hour. It required the ability to brake and a parachute to prevent us crashing into the rocks ahead!

The adrenaline rush we got when we jumped off the platform and went hurtling towards the rocks was amazing! We then rewarded ourselves with a trip to the hot springs where we bathed in the sun and sipped beers as the sun went down.
